-----Question-----
Hi Bill,
Lately whenever I try to offset or move an objest in my drawing, the program seems to freeze and becomes non responsive. I have to close it and lose all my changes. Would you have any idea what can cause this? I'm using LT 2004.
Thank you.
-----Answer-----
There is nothing in the Autodesk knowledge base that resembles this problem, except for 3D objects.  So, I took the problem to the Autodesk newsgroups and only got one response.  Object type seems to be important in this person's mind as well.

avw410 says:  Offset and move are pretty basic functions.  what type of objects are you
trying to move and offset?

Could you give us an update as to what kinds of objects?

Answer
Kathy:
At this stage of the game, I strongly suspect two things.  First, I would do a repair installation of AutoCAD LT 2004.  You need to have the original installation disk in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then you go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, find AutoCAD LT and click on "Change".  A dialog should then come up giving you Installation options.  Click on "Repair".  When the next dialog comes up, choose "Repair Installation" (or similar context).

If that doesn't work, I would do things to the computer such as adding memory.  Today's loads on the computer require that AutoCAD users such as you and I need to have 2GB of RAM on board in the computer.  I suggest that if you don't have that much, that you upgrade as soon as you can.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
