AutoCAD/CAD LT 08 & 06 Plotting via window in Paper Space

Question
Bob, I have been running CAD since Release 12 and currently exploring upgrading to LT 08 on a Vista workstation.  The only problem I have found is printing from paper space when choosing a window.  Once you choose the window, the plot screen freezes and you are forced to escape the command.  I can plot the layout with no problem.  I first noticed it using dwg to pdf, and started exploring the other plotting options.

I did call the Autodesk Tech help line.  He said that it should work and to try "audit" to fix any errors in the drawing as well as "purge" to bring the file down to size.  I tried these, but still with no luck.  The technician said it is mostly a size issue (but drawing size was only 4MB).  Also, it does work on my 2000 and XP workstations.

Before upgrading all stations to Vista, I was hoping to tackle this problem (or keep an XP station as a backup for plotting windows may be my choice). we are in great need to upgrades.

Oh, I also tried the Microsoft Document XPS option, as well as PrimoPDF (freeware for creating PDF's).  Neither worked with window selection.

I am stumped.

Thanks,
Cler

Answer
HI -- Sorry I have been tied up, but I am glad your other message shows a workaround.
I have not started with 2008 or Vista, so I may be missing something new, but, trusting you are a smart and experienced person, I will give you my thoughts:
AND -- I am going to suggest you to to the Autodesk AutoCAD printing and plotting group and pose the question.
http://discussion.autodesk.com/forum.jspa?forumID=30

Here are the thoughts--
1-- obviously, this should work, especialy with a release which is out for 4 months, so it is likely to be something  on your end. (or a Vista related bug that the group will know about)
2-- having consulted a bit, I have certain observations, which give me certain prejudices, none of which I can tell should fairly apply to you
Some red flags for me are
-- calling it CAD, not AutoCAD
-- I hope you say ELL TEE, not light.
-- I think the upgrade exploring might well have ended with 2004, since the releases keep getting better, but I agree testing it out is good if you have a lot of operators with habits
--- when I read R12, I always think the problems in new releases are old customization ( I believe the new versions need a tiny fraction, other than tool palettes and workspaces) 0r it is typing old commands, when the new release has changed the command, and you are better to click a button or a right-click choice now.
(NOTE - I dont know if you are clicking to get the window, or typing)
BTW -- Please enlighten me on "printing from paper space when choosing a window."  Just now, I cannot think of a good reason to do that. if the layouts are right.  But I am stupid today, all day, anyhow.
