Question
Bob,

I was wondering how prevalent the use of virtual "fly-throughs" for Architectural applications were these days.

Also, what's the best Autodesk product for adding photo-realistic materials to a 3D model.

Thanks!

Kevin

BTW, thanks for the link to the AutoDesk Forum for Civil 3D. While I haven't gotten any answers yet (I posted less than an hour ago), it looks like a promising discussion group. Thanks again!

Answer
GOOD-
Again, I can only speak for Architecture, not Civil, I dont know the current customs.  I would post in the Civil group to ask.
-- If you are doing a big project, lots of meetings,  sometimes if approval by the public is involved, yes, flythroughs.
--2007 has a new renderer which is pretty darn good. Autodesk sells Viz for the  visualizations (Max w/o some of the animated character capabilities), but Max has a strong hold, because people learn it in school.
There is a Visualizations Group, a Content Group and a  group for Customer Gallery (which you should look at) under AutoCAD Architecture.
Take a look at a new product - Autodesk Impression -- for fast 2D presentations.
Good luck

I am good at helping Architects and Interior Designers who are intimidated by Autocad, ADT, etc. to feel comfortable, get things done. If you are in another field, I will do what I can for you. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS TO QUESTIONER-- MOST DON'T FOLLOW THEM, AND IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO ANSWER WELL-- THANKS
