AutoCAD/COPY AND PASTE

Question
I'm having trouble copying selected layers from one drawing to a new one. Generally I select the layers and use COPY WITH BASEPOINT and select 0,0, open a new drawing and click PASTE TO ORIGINAL COORDINATES - but when I try to choose it now its non selectable. Any help.

Answer
John:
The PASTEORIG command paste objects into a drawing other than the original drawing and at the original coordinates when you copied the objects to clipboard using the COPYCLIP command (Ctrl+C).  That's not the COPYBASE command and you won't be required to enter a base point when you copy the objects to the clipboard.  If you used COPYBASE to copy the drawings to clipboard, you will of course be asked for a base point.  Then you use the PASTECLIP (Ctrl+V) command to paste to another drawing, you must specify the same coordinates for the insertion point.  In your case: 0,0.  Remember that the PASTEORIG command does not work with COPYBASE like it does with COPYCLIP and when you use COPYBASE, you need to use PASTECLIP to paste the objects and you need to specify an insertion point.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
