Question
Hello Bob,

I am a sophmore right now in high school and just finished two semesters in Auto CAD. At school when i
made solids( a block for example) and added a material to it( like a wood material), the material stayed on the solid when viewing the ogject in the Solid view. But now at home, when do the same thing i can only see the solid with the attached material through rendering. What should i do/change so that i
can fix this problem? by the way the program im using in AutoCAD 2006

Answer
Hi  - It's late, so I am going to be brief.
First, if you could see materials before, was the software Autodesk Architectural Desktop, not AutoCAD? ADT is a form of AutoCAD that does more things. You should only be able to view materials in straight AutoCAD after rendering.

Second, I know I am an old guy, but it is SUPER important to use the generally agreed-upon terms in all fields, or no one knows what anyone is talking about -- solids and blocks are way, way, way not related or the same. There is no Solid view (you mean shaded). Please believe me that professionals do not make up the terms as they go, and you should not either.

Good luck, study hard, be a success!!

I am good at helping Architects and Interior Designers who are intimidated by Autocad, ADT, etc. to feel comfortable, get things done. If you are in another field, I will do what I can for you. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS TO QUESTIONER-- MOST DON'T FOLLOW THEM, AND IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO ANSWER WELL-- THANKS
