AutoCAD/Copying objects to other drawings

Question
Bill, I receive cad files from other parties that are usually generated in a much newer version than I have.  They save these down to my version ACAD LT2000I.  The problem I have is copying from these drawings to mine. On some I have no problem copying and pasting a selection of objects from their drawing into mine.  But on some others I can not, on these I can not even copy and paste within the same drawing.  Can you help me with this please?

Answer
Kelly:
There is a HotFix for this problem.  It can be downloaded here:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=7460005&linkID=924...

I just found out the following:
The hotfix in the link above needs to be installed on the computers running the newer versions.
That means you're going to have to get your clients to install this and then resend the drawings.  I know you wanted a more independent solution (I would), but that's all that Autodesk has to offer.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
