what is DDCHPROP, and how does it work?

Ken, is this homework? ddchprop / change were used to change object properties back in R12-R14 days. In 2000, autodesk improved & focused on the editing interface of the software rendering the properties dialog box (& match properties command). this allowed more flexibility (selection sets/filters) for us users to change & manipulate just about any of the selected entities. hope this helps!
