AutoCAD/Too many Dim Styles

Question
Ok, I can't take it anymore. Is there anyway to get rid of some of the DIMSTYLES that are automatically loaded when I start a new drawing? 12 or more on occasion. I try to delete them through the style manager and purge but the message says that they are in use. Where? In another drawing? Thanks for humoring me.

Answer
Robert:
Dimension styles that are current are treated just like those that are referenced.  Make STANDARD current before you try to purge the others.  Some of them may be child styles of a current style.  Also, there may be a block that contains a dimension in your drawing even though it's not inserted.  It's best to purge ALL to get all the dimstyles out. But even better, is to START FROM SCRATCH, when you start a new drawing.  I don't want to start a new drawing with an Autodesk-supplied template.  Create your own template by starting from scratch and save as a template file (.dwt).  Then in Options;Files, find the path/file option for the QNEW template and enter the name of your new template file in there.  That should cure you of your dimension style overload forever.

Next time, be sure and include your version of AutoCAD or vertical product.  Thanks.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
