AutoCAD/Dimensioning
Expert: Bob - 9/6/2004
QuestionI am learning architectural desktop on my own. I was dimension and everything was fine. All of a sudden the text placement changed. Now the fraction part of the dimension is on top of the whole number. For example, if the dimension of 1'-11 3/4”, the ¾ is on top of the 11. Any idea on how to fix it. I just ordered a book to help me with this program, but it has not arrived yet. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

AnswerHi -- congratulations on tackling ADT. As you have learned, doing it without a book (and probably classes) is bewildering. BUT__ a) if the book is not MASTERING AUTDESK ARCHITECTURAL DESKTOP by Aubin, you have missed my favorite, and b) it is harder to help when you leave out saying which release of ADT you are on --2004 and 2005 are much easier and better.
Sorry, I should have included c)- your question is an AUTOCAD one, not about the ADT part of the program (ADT is built on top of AutoCAD, which I cannot determine if you already know.)
So-- the dimensioning stuff is going to be in a good AutoCAD book, and I am going to tell you to STOP DEAD trying the ADT capabilities if your AutoCAD knowledge is weak, and fix that first, or you will be in the soup.

I have never heard of the problem you are having, but AtuoCAD is so complex, there are many surprises, usually, as in this case, from your inadvertently changing a setting.
FIRST -- try editing the dimension style or removing the overrides you have placed on it. Go to HELP and read up on the topics (this part of HELP in ADT is straight from AutoCAD)
SECOND: If that is unsuccessful, use Design Center to pull and uncorrupted style in from another drawing. (dimstyle modifications are not global).
ANOTHER WAY: WBLOCK the dwg into a new one, and update the dimensions - they should be fine. -- or WBLOCK with that layer locked and re-dimension in the new dwg.
In other words, when you have a wierd mess, you have to be resourceful. If you know AtuoCAD fairly well, you can work this stuff out -- if not, get a good AutoCAD book and work through it.
