AutoCAD/Failure to embed fonts in pdf

Question
I'm using Autocad 2007 along with Acrobat 7.0 Standard.  Previously, I had Scansoft PDFMaker professional 3.0 for converting drawings to pdfs, but after my last laptop blew up our IT department "upgraded" me to the real Acrobat.  The problem is that whenever I convert a drawing to pdf now it doesn't embed the fonts and thus the size of the PDF goes up by at least 10x, i.e. drawing I converted in hte past that were 170k are now over 2MB.  If I convert to DWF first and then to PDF the fonts do embed and file sizes are down in roughly the correct range, using the same settings in Adobe PDF so I don't think it's a problem with how I have Acrobat set up.

I've tried converting a drawing that was nothing but two lines of text and still it ends up as line art in the PDF.  Any suggestions?

Joel Fontenot (ironically named) came up with this suggestion:

Check the plot settings to see if it's set to plot truetype as text - that's
the part that embeds the text.  Attached is a screen shot of the setting.

But it only works for truetype fonts.  It won't work for SHX fonts which are
considered vector graphic entities during any plotting.

A screen shot was available, but I can't get that in here.  Just check your PC3 settings.  The TRUETYPE Text as Font setting is just above Merge Control.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
