AutoCAD/PACKNGO & DDEDIT

Question
Hello Bill,

My first problem is DDEDIT being simply useless for Attribute edits within AutoCAD 2002.  I could've sworn it was working at some points.  Is there anyway around this nuisance?

The section issue is the PacknGo function.  I've noticed that PACKNGO does a complete job of copying all associated files, oppose to -PACKNGO, which doesnt.  Are you aware of any existing reasons to why that is?

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Nick Tran

Answer
DDEDIT (the command) never did edit an attribute.  There is, however, a function of express tools that detects any kind of text that the function is aware of and will then invoke the correct command to perform the edit.  The name of the function is TEDIT.  There is a different TEDIT command which is a sub-command of the DIM command.  But while out of the DIM and DIM1 commands, TEDIT will edit text and attribute values, if EXPRESS TOOLS is installed.

Pack'n'go is another function of express tools.
I ran -PACK and it copied all of the font files, XREFs etc.  Did you elect to preserve subdirectories?  If so,  Look in the folder that has the same name as the volume label of your hard drive.  Express created that folder to create subfolders identical to the ones in which your original files are stored.

By the way, since you prefer a command line version, why not try -etransmit.  It's the AutoCAD command that does the same thing - only better, and it doesn't require EXPRESS TOOLS.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
