AutoCAD/Read only

Question
Hi,

I work in a small office where 3 pc's have AutoCAD 2006 installed.  On 2 of the pc's, everything is working fine.  On the third machine, drawings will open in "read-only" formats only.  This is a new installation, although CAD was installed on it the same way it has been installed on the other pc's.  Is this a problem with this installation?  Or is there something else that might be causing this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rob

Answer
Rob:
This sounds like a folder sharing/permissions problem.  If you have the drawing files on a server, add the identical username with the identical password as he/she has on the "client" computer, and make sure the user has all the same rights as the other users on the server.  They will need either "power user" or "administrator" privileges with the ability to change the folder or to share full control of the folder with other users.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
