Question
Hi,

I am trying to create a drawing of an assembly which comprises of a number of sub-assemblies. I have put each of the sub-assemblies in their own separate drawing, and XREFed them into the 'assembly' drawing.

I have created a few SOLVIEW viewports and have now found that I can't use SOLDRAW to create the 2D views.

Is there a way do get SOLDRAW to work without binding the XREFs into the assembly drawing? If possible I would like to keep them separate for editing purposes. Alternatively, is there a better way for me to structure the drawing files to get this to work better, or as a last resort should I put all the parts into the same file?

Please help!

Answer
Those xref's are not native to the current drawing therefore SOLDRAW can't operate on it. There's really no correct solution to the proper way of structuring your dwgs - however, consider how often does that part change, is it used in other assy's, any other iterations...xref has it's limitations but works wonders on change propagations.
