Question
Hi Bill,

I recently purchased a new wireless, 5 button Packard Bell mouse. It looks identical to a standard Logitech mouse.

When I press the scroll wheel - I can PAN - which is what I want! However when I rotate the scroll wheel It continues to pan up and down. I really need to zoom in and out. My previous 3 button logitech mouse just died - which is why I replaced it. I am geting really frustrated having to bring up the zoom commands every time I want to zoom in or out - I think I am actually going insane! - Its taking me up to 10 times longer to do simple drawings! PLEASE PLEASE HELP. You'll be saving my life!

Thanks

Morgan.

PS I'm using Autocad Light 2002

Answer
AutoCAD has a feature as you well know called "Intellizoom" which allows you to to real-time zooming and panning.  This feature is 100% supported by the Microsoft family of Intellimouse mice.  Logitech and others do not belong to this family.  Remember in the future to buy Microsoft Intellimouse.  No, I don't have any shares of Microsoft stock, nor do I work or have any affiliation with Microsoft or Bill Gates.  I just don't want the hassle that other mice cause.  If you can't take the mouse back, then install the Microsoft Intellimouse Driver for your Packard Bell Mouse.  Try using the 5 button Wireless Explorer driver.  I like using the 5 button Explorer mouse because the big button can be used as a delete key to erase AutoCAD objects and other non-AutoCAD objects.  Since I have to draw on snap most of the time, I use the small button to emulate the F9 key to toggle my snap on and off.
With AutoCAD, it doesn't pay to avoid Microsoft, sorry to say.

I joined Driverguide.com to be able to download a driver whenever I needed one.  I recommend the same for you and for all.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
