AutoCAD/UNITS

Question
EVERY TIME I START A NEW DRAWING IN AUTOCAD THE UNITS ARE DEFAULTED TO DECIMAL. I WANT IT TO DEFAULT TO ARCHITECTURAL.

Answer
Easiest way to insure you start up with the correct settings is to use the correct template, or create a template file that you want to use and start AutoCAD using that template.  You should create and define your profile, define all your system variable settings (SETVARS), and save under the template file name of your choice.  I put "samantha.dwt as an example".  If you have both a template and a profile that define your UNITS, you should be on the right track.

In the shortcut that you click on to Start AutoCAD, you will find a window labeled "Target".  In it will be a path to AutoCAD and some parameters to start the program.  Those parameters will include a template file to start AutoCAD with.  That's the "/t" switch.  The "/p" switch is the profile to use.

"C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2006\acad.exe"  /p "samantha" /t "samantha.dwt"

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
