Question
If i change the dimstyle settings such as text height in AutoCAD in one drawing is there a way i can use this "custom" setting in another drawing?

Thanks,
Kevin

Answer
After you finish your drawing, if you want to save your dimension style, give it a name in your DIMSTYLE dialog box (DDIM), such as KEVINDIM, do a quick-save (qsave) and then save your drawing as as KEVINDIM, and place it in a folder that you can refer to quickly and easily and also in the Support File Search Path as described in OPTIONS;FILES.  You may add a new folder in there for your personal support files if you so desire.  When you start a new drawing,  If you don't want to create your dimension layer at the same time you create the dimension style in a new drawing, place the dimensions on layer 0.  Then erase everything in the drawing except the dimensions to cut down on drawing size.  Purge the entire drawing of all purgeable objects with the purge command.  Check in the DIMSTYLE dialog to make sure you didn't purge your dimension style when that happened.  It shouldn't have purged if you have dimensions in the drawing that are of that style.  Save the drawing.  When you want your new style in a new drawing, just INSERT KEVINDIM, and when it asks you for an insertion point, just hit ESCape.  Your dimension style is now in the new drawing.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
