AutoCAD/Wheel Mouse Panning
Expert: Bill DeShawn - 1/13/2004
QuestionI am currently using autocad 2002 with a Microsoft wheel mouse optical and the latest IntelliMouse software as of January 13, 2003. I have used autocad 2002 for a year now and am rather attached to the pan function activated by clicking the scroll wheel.
I have had problems with this in the past. Sometimes it works fine for weeks and then one day it just stops panning with the scroll click. I've tried setting the mbuttonpan variable to 1.
In the past the problem has been solved by resetting the current profile to default, but recently I upgraded to windows XP and now even resetting my autocad profile doesn't help.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon
AnswerThere are a few different solutions.
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2874369&linkID=247...
talks about panning in a perspective view.
Here's something else:
Issue
The mouse wheel does not work as expected; instead of zooming the view, it scrolls the drawing up and down.
Solution
This problem can occur after using 3D Orbit view.
If you are using a Microsoft® IntelliMouse®, you can use the Troubleshooter option to find and fix problems with specific programs and the IntelliMouse functionality.
To run the troubleshooter:
Ensure that AutoCAD® software or AutoCAD LT® software is running.
In Windows® Control Panel, open the Mouse item.
In the Mouse Properties dialog box, Wheel tab, click Troubleshooter.
In the Troubleshooter dialog box, click Next until the Select Application dialog box is displayed.
In the Select Application dialog box, select AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT, and then click OK.
The troubleshooter runs and tries to correctly set up AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT to use the mouse wheel. Note that you may need to install the latest IntelliMouse driver to have the Troubleshooter option. If you need a later version of the IntelliMouse driver, visit the Microsoft website
That is all the panning solutions Autodesk offers. The Autodesk newsgroups don't talk about problems with mice in Windows XP, so except for what's happening to you, there doesn't seem to be a problem. So, it appears that the solutions offered have proven to be sufficient. Your case may be a special one. Sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling software can do the trick, too. Try doing that with the Intellipoint software.
That's all I can do for now.
