Question
GDAY BOB, I have been working with auto cad2006 for only a very short period of 1 yr , 6 months of this was my initial part time training,Now in my new job as a drafty in a engineering firm doing 3d plant and 2d elec and hydraulic etc on auto cad 2008,and find myself in a office were all the draftsman who set up our system or know the ins and out of how to control autocad have just left, anyway cut to the chase im trying to bring a xrefed drawing home to work on after hrs and i cant get the drawing to open so that it appears correctly, parts are missing and other parts are apearing in a scale about 200 times larger, the saved media is correct because when i open file off usb flash drive its fine.i typed pack2zip and saved ,i installed justzipit to unzip it at home still no luck same result as a normal save open on my home pc also with autocad2008.

Answer
Hi -- well, I am taking a stab at replying to that.

First, you know that you need the files for all xrefs, and for any files xrefed into the files you are further xreffing into your file.
The 200 times thing might be that a drawing was in Imperial units and must be attached at a conversion scale. (by the gday, you are in Oz,and on Metric)
If I had that many references to worry about, I might stay late at the office.
Of course, you are being sure that any work at home is converted to 2004 file format before bringing to office, right?
If you have a real mess, tell the boss to pay for a consultant, because the old guys set up a system in some odd way you cant be expected to know. Do this soon, if you cant solve it.
