AutoCAD/autocad - ucs

QuestionHi Bill,
I have a drawing opened up in Autocad 06 and in paper space the ucs was and can be set to 0,0 and looks like straight lines....the second I go to model space the cursor rotates just a few degrees to make it and all the new lines I draw segmented....I tried resetting the ucs , new, 0,0 and nothings changes the slightly off ucs in model space. i did clip out the meat of the drawing and insert it into a new drawing and it works fine so I suspect a corrupt file as the cause but was there a setting or method to check or change the model space ucs being that little bit off and paper space working fine.
AnswerAnne:
No matter where you work in a drawing, you're in a viewport. I know that doesn't sound right the first time you hear it, but it's true. The Model Tab is a viewport. Layout1 is a viewport. The Viewport created in Layout1 with MVIEW is a viewport. The UCS can be set differently in each viewport. So, if you are in the Model tab, it can be World, go into Layout1 Paper space, it can be rotated 30 degrees, and go into the Model Space Viewport in Layout 1 in can be rotated 60 degrees. If you go into the Viewport in Layout1 and the cross-hairs are cocked a little, then you need to check the WORLDUCS read-only system variable first to see if it is set to 1 (if you want to be in the WORLD UCS when you are in that viewport). If you are, then you need to run the PLAN command. (You may have to unlock the viewport from paper space first). After running the PLAN command, you will have to reset your desired zoom factor using the ZOOM command and the xp option. But once the plan command is invoked, your cross-hairs will be right.
Another thing that can knock off your cross-hairs is the SNAPANG system variable. Set that to 0.
Let me know how it goes, Anne.
