AutoCAD - make a command

Question
I am the cad operator at a landscape firm that uses blocks of circles at different sizes to convey different plants.  Most times these circles overlap and I need to trim where they overlap.  The problem is that the designers choose to move the placement many times, creating a huge loss of time for me to replace the broken area (there can be up to 100 of these blocks on one drawing).  Would there be any way I can create a command or something that would work in autocad lt 2004 that would automatically Take out the area where they overlap, but then replace it if it is moved, and only work on the plant blocks?  Any ideas are appreciated!

Answer
if they were 3d blocks, you could probably HIDE them, which would remove everything under them, but that would not be limited to other plants. you might be able to come up with some kind of mask that didn't plot, but once again that would also hide things that you might otherwise want to see.. curbs, etc.
probably the best answer is some kind of intelligent objects, and that would be expensive and difficult to do.
perhaps some block replace/trim library would be the most cost-effective option, making it a manual operation but speeding up the repetative tasks.
