AutoCAD/convert 2d polylines to arcs

Question
Dear Bill,

Is there a way to convert 2d polylines to arcs and lines in autocad 2000 LT? Because our contruction company uses our dxf files to cut with a laser. And the 2d polylines won't become a smooth line because it seizes polyline. When he has a dxf with arcs and lines then the cuttings will be smooth.

I hope you can answer my question

kind regards,

Erik de Gier

Answer
Erik:
The _explode command will convert a 2D polyline to lines and arcs.  There will be a line for every polyline segment.  If a curve is merely simulated with polyline segments, and not done with polyarcs, there is no way to convert such objects to arcs.  An new arc would have to be created to take the place of the line segments created as a result of exploding a polyline that had no arc segments therein.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
