Question
hello bill,

autocat lt 2004
i want to delete some layers from imported files
by using the layer properties manager.
when clicking delete i get the message:
"the selected layer was not deleted.
the following layers cannot be deleted:
layers 0 and defpoints
the current layer
Xref-dependant layers
layers containing objects"

i know that the respective layer is empty and is not the current one. i dont know what its all about the defpoints and Xref...

hope i could describe every thing correctly.
thank you
m

Answer
I have a strict rule that all blocks are created with objects on layer "0".  That is why I get that message much less that many other people.  You need to go through all the blocks in the drawing and purge all unreferenced blocks.  If that didn't work, then go through the entire block list and make sure there are not any objects in those blocks that are not on the layer you want to delete.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
