Hi,
i have some dwg's that should only be about 15k in size. they are about 1mb all purged, wblock the whole plan out and the new dwg is 1 mb. I can erase everything in the dwg and it is still 1mb purged. It is not all dwg's just some. i can't find what is loaded that is making them so large. ever here of this? i am on 2002
it is a real problem as the dwg's are xrefs of unit plans and have to be e-mailed.
thanx
Dave

Some drawings could have originated with a product that puts proxy objects that are invisible into the drawing. It's data that is meaningless without the original AutoCAD vertical product that made it.  Such programs are Land Desktop, Architectural Desktop, Mechanical Desktop, etc.  There is no way you can purge these objects out.  It's best to start fresh than to SAVEAS from one drawing to another.  You might try inserting the WBLOCKed objects into a new drawing session to see if that reduces the file size.

Answer
You got lucky.  Sometimes that stuff doesn't get purged via DXF anymore.  Count your blessings. And good for you that you were resourceful enough to figure out what to do.  I probably would have not worried about the file size, since HDD's are so big now.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
