Question
Hi, not sure whether you are the right person should i send this question to.

I'm using Autodesk Map 2004 and i have 30++ drawings that i need to replace text to a new one. Each drawing has about thousands of codes in each layers. Is there a way i can do it automatically other than using the find-replace tools under Menu Edit?

Answer
Possibly.  But first, what object properties do these text have in common.  Are they true text, or are they attributes or MTEXT?  Do they have a text string that no other text has?  Is the text that needs to be replaced common among all those you want to change and uncommon to all other text objects?  If they are attributes, do they have a common attribute tag / block name and what is their attribute tag string?
If I'm going to write code for you I need to know these things.  Are you going to change a specific text string to another specific text string?  How many different old text strings do you want to change and how many new text strings do you want to insert in its place?  Also, what problem are you experiencing with the FIND dialog that comes with AutoCAD?

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
