AutoCAD/importing pictures and excel spreadsheets
Expert: J. B. Borge - 9/28/2004
QuestionHi JB,
Couple of follow-up questions:
* For some reason, I don't have 'True color raster images and rendering' under 'Display performance' group. I only have 'apply solid fill' (which is checked) and 'Show text boundary frame' (which is unchecked).
* As for the paste special for excel and word, that is fabulous! Thanks. Followup questions: 1) It seems though to import only limited amount of text. For instance, I wanted to import 2 pages of a word document, but it only imports one page at a time. Any way to fix that. 2) Is there any way to control the font and font size that it comes in?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate your help!

Hi. I'm using autocad LT 2004 on Windows XP. I import pictures and excel spreadsheets into my CAD files by copying them from their respective files and then pasting them into my CAD file. The problem is, when I print the CAD file, the pasted items always print lighter than the CAD lines. Is there a better way to import jpegs, gifs, excel spreadsheet and word documents into Cad so that they look as professional as my CAD drawing? Thanks for your help.

2 things u need to do.
Type 'Options' on command line. Under the Options dialog box, select the 'Display'tab. Under 'Display performance' group, ensure 'True color raster images and rendering' is enabled w/ a checkmark. This should take care of the raster images you're printing.
For OLE Objects such as excel/word files, you're better off using a 'Paste Special'. Under excel, select all info you want to export. Format it by putting cell borders so that each cell will be enclosed w/ rectangle once its exported. Select Edit/Copy.
Go to the AutoCAD drawing, Select Edit/Paste Special. From the Paste Special dialog box, select 'AutoCAD Entities'. Click insertion point.
That's it! Let me know.

If you don't have 'true color raster' option, then I think this is one of the limitations in the Lite version of Autocad. & I've found no documentation of system variable that drives this resolution increase.
..and for the Paste Special function for word docs, unfortunately autodesk hasn't addressed this bug yet. & it's been like that for the past releases. Another work around for this is to create an 'mtext' & paste it there. However, you loose all of your formatting.
Or again, you can just repetitiously do a paste special & insert each page as autocad entities.
After inserting doc, you can easily manipulate textual style/height thru Properties ('props' command). I think it is best to do a scale if you want to decrease/increase text size.
Hope this helps. Let me know!
