Question
Thanks for the help.  I have another question. My autocad is working very slow.  I was dimensioning and when I tried to place the points of the demnsions it was hard to set them.  It seemed like i was in jello.  when I zoom in or out i see a mesage in text box that say "please wait formatting text"  Do you have any idea on how to speed up the program? I checked my pc for adware, and viruses and all came out clean.

Thanks
Greg

I created a custom design and want to offset it.  How can I make it one solid object so I can offset the complete object and not have to offset each individual line, arc, etc…?  Any help is appreciated. I am using AutoCad 2000.

Thanks
Greg

Answer -
Well, let's hope I know what you're talking about.  If your "design" is closed (has no openings at the ends), you can use PEDIT to convert the objects to LWPOLYLINES and join them.  It will seem like you are only converting one object, but when you join it with other objects, they become LWPOLYLINE segments.  PEDIT will ask you if you want to convert the object you pick to an POLYLINE, but it will really convert it to an LWPOLYLINE.  If you have EXPRESS TOOLS, you can use PLJOIN to join it all together.  LWPOLYLINEs offset very nicely.  If this advice is not compatible with your geometry, you can copy it and scale the copy to the size you want.

I see that you are running AutoCAD 2000.  AutoCAD 2000 uses TODAY.  Close your today window and see if that helps.  If it doesn't help your graphics speed up, it certainly will help your saves speed up.  Other than that, may I suggest a bigger and better video card?

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
