AutoCAD/purging

Question
I am trying to reduce the size of an architectural 2 AutoCAD file to allow me to save it to a diskette.  I purged the file of all un-used blocks, layers, line types, etc., but still it does not purge most of these items. Eighty five percent of the blocks, layers, etc., are not being in the drawing; they were inserted at one time but were later deleted.  Do you have any suggestions on how purge these items?  I did copy my drawing to a new file and it did reduce the file by 50 percent, but if there is a way to purge these items I would like to know.

Thanks in advance,
Eddie

Answer
Blocks that don't purge can contain layers that are unused and won't purge.  Also, the biggest problem is when a block contains a nested block.  You should try to avoid that at all cost.  I try to make all objects within block reside on layer "0".  Then I change colors if nec.
You get buy a Purging utility here:

Eddie:  I'm going on vacation.  You have one unresolved question about wall cleanup in ADT.  I am not going to be able to answer that one before I go.  I have a message out on the ADT newsgroups, but so far, I have no responses.  I don't work enough with ADT to be able to answer that question without help.  You may need to get help from another EXPERT or from Autodesk support.  Your ADT supplier should be able to help you also.

So long for now

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
