AutoCAD/rename autosaves to dwg

Question
Bob,
I can sort of recall a problem in the past where renaming an AutoCAD (2000) autosave or BAK file to a dwg file did not allow me to open the re-named file.  When I double click the renamed file - it does not open.  In fact, the icon in front of the file name does not change to an AutoCAD icon.  Is there a system variable or other setting that needs to be changed? (Our AutoCAD guru left our company a year ago - HELP)

Best regards,

Answer
Hi -- Of course autosave and bak are entirely  different. I have never heard of a variable that wont let them rename and open, but you certainly could check AutoCAD Help under
all possible similar topics.
If the icon wont change to a dwg icon, the normal cause would be that there is already a dwg by that name.
If still stumped, pls go to Autodesk.com, look for the dicussion group for your version of Acad, and post the question. Sorry, super super busy tonight -- hope this helps.
