AutoCAD/A simple count / List command
Expert: Bill DeShawn - 9/18/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Good day to all. Can anyone tell me if this is possible to be done?
OS, XP Professional 2002, Serivc pack 2
AutoCAD LT2000i
Excel 2003
(1) A simple count / List command, say I have a drawing that has 5 dogs in it.
I would like to click on 1 dog in the drawing, do a count / list command that would count all the dogs, & come up with the total 5 dogs in my drawing.
(2) You know I will be trying to export that info to Excel So…
ANSWER: Dave: In the properties palette there is a Quick Select option in the upper right corner.
Apply to: Entire Drawing
Object: Block Reference
Properties: Name
Operatore: = Equals
Value: Put your block name here:
When done, all of your blocks should be preselected, provided your PICKFIRST system variable is set to 1 and your GRIPS system variable is set to 1.
When you click outside the properties palette, you can run the LIST command to get count of all the objects selected. Unfortunately AutoCAD LT doesn't give you a lot of options, and because I don't use LT, I had to ask somebody if it had QSELECT. I was told that it does.

QUESTION: properties palette, work ok but you have to pick each thing you want to count.
Down loaded & installed your "trial Excellink 2000".
Every time I use the 'export to excel" it opens the excel and exports the info,
but it Freezes up my AutoCAD LT2000i
http://www.xanadu.cz/en/download.asp?file=Excellink Support is the pits.
ANSWER: Dave:
I recommend that you take another look at the part of the message where I mentioned how to do a Quick Select. In the properties palette, after having clicked on all the appropriate parameters, all the objects will be highlighted and will not require you to individually select each part. Then, when you get out of the properties palette, you can use the LIST command and then P for previous selection to get a count of the objects you selected with Quick Select.
Also, get your third-party software from a better place like
http://www.pendean.com/lt or
http://www.caddepot.com or
http://www.drcauto.com.

QUESTION: "LIST command" & then how to export to excel?
AnswerWith full AutoCAD you have a lot more options. There is however an ATTEXT command in AutoCAD LT. It will create either a comma delimited, space delimited or DXF format Extract file (your choice). At
http://www.drcauto.com, the ToolKit Max will give you almost Full AutoCAD capability enabling you to use AutoLISP and Visual LISP commands. However, Toolkit Max is no longer available for Lt 2000/2000i. Your CAD software is way behind (as even mine is becoming with ADT20006), and it is time for you to upgrade. DRCAuto does have some tools that work with 2000i, but do not include export commands or AutoLISP functions.
You are currently limited by the version and the software you chose to buy.
