Question
sorry for not being specific, i really dont know how to ask the question of my problem because i recently started using autocad. so here it goes again and hopefully it will help, im trying to edit a drawing that was done by another person in a earlier version-when i go to open the drawing i can see it on the preview screen-but when i open it the drawing is not there-all layers are on i also wanted to say is that they plotted it on a template using two viewports-also in the xref manager window states that theres no xternal references found. hopefully this will help and im sorry if it doesnt but i just want to thank you for your time

Answer
Hi--
Did you look up the RECOVER command in AutoCAD help?
I thought I suggested that. The drawing could have been made badly, or damaged during electronic transmission.
Again, did you try to select items in the drawing, in case it is zoomed way out, and the items are too small to see?
If you dont know enough AutoCAD to follow the suggestions I made, you should take the drawing to someone you know who can show you.
I say 90% the drawing needs recovery or it is zoomed out. (assuming the layers are not just on, but unfrozen)
He "plotted it on a template using 2 viewports" is all screwed up terminology.  You mean he created a layout which will plot 2 viewports on one sheet.
Trying AutoCAD without learning the basics is quicksand.
Once you know more, HELP will assist you a lot.

Good Luck
