Question
hi bill,
using the units dialog box to change an existing drawing's unit precision from 1/16" to 1/256", i have no problem.
unfortunately, after re-opening the drawing after saving and closing, the units are always set to 1/16" precision. as if the precision change was never made.
thanks,
mike

Answer
Something is changing the LUPREC system variable.  It could be a routine that you run at startup.  Do you load routines at startup?  What method are you using?  How are you loading them?  Are you using ACAD.LSP, ACADDOC.LSP, ACAD200?.lsp ACAD200?DOC.lsp, or APPLOAD STARTUP SUITE?  It could also be happening within an MNL file the same name as your main or enterprise menu.  What version of AutocAD are you running (You should ALWAYS refer to your ACAD version or if you are running a vertical product such as Architectural Desktop or Mechanical Desktop or Land Desktop or AutoCAD Mechanical, I need to know.  If for example you are using Architectural desktop, then AECDWGSETUP is the command that will bring up the dialog box that sets your units defaults.

Expertise

I can address all 2-D questions and some 3-D questions. I do programming in AutoLISP if it doesn`t involve solid modeling. I can also address menu customization issues and can help you find answers to questions I can`t answer by taking your question directly to Autodesk via their newsgroups.

Experience

I used to do electronic and mechanical design for a flat panel monitor manufacturer, and now I do architectural drafting for an architect. I did and do AutoLISP and menu customization and take pride in making my lisp routines to do the work exactly the way the client likes them done.

Publications
I had a routine published in CADENCE magazine (no longer in publication and taken over by CADALYST). Some of my routines are published on my website at http://my.sterling.net/~bdeshawn
