AutoCAD/vport changes not saving
Expert: Bill DeShawn - 8/8/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Bill,
I am using acad 2005. I have a problem with acad not saving my vport changes when I pan or zoom. If I either save or do a saveas prior to paning or zooming(then save and close)it will not save my changes to the vports. If I make my vport changes first and then save and close, it saves the vport changes fine. The vport pans or zooms are the only things that do not save. All other modifications to the dwg save perfect. Is this something you have seen before?
Is it a bug? or an isolated problem?
Thanks
ANSWER: 1. Within the model space viewport, set your zoom factor the way you want it with the zoom command and using 1xp or .5xp or 2xp. That sets the contents of your viewport to a scale as compared to paper space.
2. Go immediately to paper space, zoom out and lock the viewport. You can preselect it with PICKFIRST set to 1, then right click and scroll to "DISPLAY LOCKED" and select "YES".
Make sure that's done, then if you are still having trouble, get back to me.
Looking at your question again, however, I see that I may be barking up the wrong tree. You say it saves all the viewport changes within, but not the zoom factor or panned position. This doesn't sound right at all to me. I looked it up on the knowledge base and nothing shows up there or on the newsgroups. It might be an isolated problem, like you say. First run an AUDIT and automatically fix errors. Then lock the viewport like I mentioned above. Then let me know how it goes.
Also, did you make the viewport in Model tab or in a layout?

QUESTION: Thanks for the help.
The display lock solution seems to work.
This is the first time I have had to do that. Could I be looking at a corrupt file somewhere and need to reinstall autocad?
Thanks again
AnswerI ALWAYS lock my viewports. There's really no point in leaving them unlocked after their set. You can unlock them if you have to, or as I do, just stretch the corners to make an adjustment. I really don't think your file is corrupt. If Audit didn't find errors, then, I'm 99% positive that your file is not corrupt.
