Autographs - Paul Whiteman

Expert: Michael Kasmar - 2/8/2008

Question
I have a Paul Whiteman autograph in pencil on the inside of a wine list from The
Lounge of the Commercial Hotel, Elko, Nevada along with a napkin from that
night with his image in a red outline.  The photograph album it was in dated the
autograph as 1941. Is this of any particular value to save?

Answer
First of all if it were you who obtained this autograph, then I'd dare say the memory behind it is probably the most value you can find.  However, if you are one who wouldn't miss it if it were gone, yes there is a value to his signature.  While not on a 'key' item, the value of just his signature alone varies.  Right now there are references of signed cuts from $8-$80 depending on the provenance, and photos upwards of $800, so again, put in the right auction market place and with the right wording, it could fetch a decent price.  I hope this helps.
