Automotive/'00 V-wag, leaking oil around filter

Question
Sir,
When I changed the oil in my wife's '00 Volkswagen bug,oil started leaking bad around the oil filter after I had hand-tightened it. I had to tighten the filter as tight as I could in order to prevent severe leakage. It still is leaking slowly, no matter how tight it is. I did check the gasket, it is fine. The filter is a Fram, and I'm sure it is the correct model. Please advise if you can give some suggestions on things to check. Thanks, Dan

Answer
Clean the filter housing and you will see a gasket that is between the filter housing and the engine.I am sure you will find it is leaking rather than the filter. Also use a new filter to be on the safe side.Make sure the old rubber ring comes off with the old filter as i have seen people forget to take them off and what happens is you have 2 rubber O rings and it leaks badly.
