Question
Hello Sean I'm a locksmith and need to make a key for a 1970 VW bug. Is there a key code anywhere in the car. If I pull the Ing switch will there be a code on the lock like chevy?

Answer
As far as i remember there is no number for the key anywhere on these cars.So ,you will need to buy a new barrel/key unit.If you cant get one ,then you can try the dealer with the vin number.I have taken locks with lost keys to the locksmith and he was able to cut one from the lock.Trial and error i think he said but it worked. The lock was old and not available so worth a try.I suppose the owners handbook is long gone?.It is usually in this .
