Question
My Jetta is idling high! Idles regularly at 2000RPM sometimes a little higher. How do I turn it down so it will idle at 1000RPM?

Answer
Does it idle high while hot or cold or always? If it does then it sounds like you have another problem probably a vacuum leak or intake leak.Setting the idle lower wont fix the problem.Im guessing you have high mileage so use a vacuum gauge and see what you find.A worn timing belt will also cause this.Does your engine ping under load?If it does then its your ignition timing being off slightly.Check all vacuum hoses first to see. Then check the belt for wear. You cannot adjust the idle on most fuel injected cars. They use a idle air control solenoid or valve.
