I have a 1998 Jetta where the headlights, wipers and heater fan motor will spontaneously turn off simultaneously. At the same time the brake indicator on the dash will light up. You will hear a click when this happens. Generally the brake indicator will click off in a few seconds and everything else will turn back on. It seems to happen more often when just starting on a cold morning, and less often after the car has been on the roas a while and wrmed up.

Check all relays for these components.This is a job for a qualified electrician or the dealer.I would be guessing and this is way too complex to advise on over the internet.Could be a cut wire short or relay problem.I have had problems with these jettas for similar problems and its a tedious time consuming job to find the cause.
