Hi I hope someone out there can help in addressing this issue: I currently
own a 1999 FORD EXPLORER with approx. 80000 miles on it. The engine is
a V6 OHV not the SOHC for some reason when the temperature outside is
about 80 degreesbor if I run the AC the engine or what I suspect to be the
MAF makes a humming sound if indeed my suspicion is true what are the
neccesary steps to R & R this part now the truck runs great does not
hesitate, smoke or leak original ownerrhnning synthetic oil and doing all the
required services. Please help thanks.

  I'm a Parts Professional, please remember that. I'm not  Tech and don't feel qualified to answer this question completely but I have sold enough MAFs, it doesn't seem that complicated. Four bolts and a couple of clamps and a plug, it is out. NOW... I want you to make sure it is the MAF..
  I need for you to get 2 "tools", a NonMagnetic item such as a plastic screw driver handle or a wooden hammer handle. Also a wooden or plastic ruler. First, place the ruler on the MAF and put the other end on your ear. Can you hear the humming? Next, GENTLY tap on the MAF to see if the humming noise goes away.
  I can't see a MAF humming since it has no moving parts. Maybe it hums because it forgot the words to the song. Seriously, I want you to do the above tests before you spend the money on another unit. There is no sense in throwing away good money. Good luck and thank you for the question.
