Question I have a 1999 silhouette van. 2 days ago, started overheating. pulled over waited 30 minutes, drove 1 mile home. yesterday on the 24th, put a new thermostat on it. worked fine in the shop, drove it around on the bypass. Took it to church, came back drove it home, overheating again. What is causing this? I had a new jasper engine put in it in Dec. 2005. 75000 miles or 3yr. warr is still on it. Someone told me it could be the head gasket. Water has not been leaking anywhere. Engine has never run hot since I had it. What could it be?
Answer Your friend may be right, and it need not be leaking externally to be blown. The Head Gasket may have failed between two Cylinders, and could be leaking into one or both of the Cylinders, and the liquid getting blown out the Exhaust. If Jasper doesn't decide your previous overheating incident caused the Head Gasket failure, then you'll be able to get a Warranty replacement.
