QuestionThe car was on the freeway when the engine just stopped. When i tried to restart it would crank but no ignition. I do not appear to be getting any power to the fuel pump. I replaced the plugs, wires, roto, dist cap, coil, hall effect sensor, and auto shut down relay. There doesn't seem to be power to the auto shut down relay, but i cannot confirm this.
AnswerYou need to check the fuel pressure and the spark to determine which has failed. You say there is no power to the fuel pump?By what means did you find this or are you sure there is no power.None of the parts you replaced will make the fuel pump run so,back to basics and check fuel pressure with a proper tester and test ignition with a meter for coil resistance and power to and from all ignition circuits.Seeming is guessing and it must be done properly or you will be putting parts in this car until you might get the problem.Or maybe not.Test according to a Haynes manual or Chiltons whichever you can get as all cars are different ignition ratings.Fuel pressure must be 45psi at the rail or it will not run.Thats approx,45 give or take 5psi is ok.
