Expertise
Heretofore, I will NOT answer any mechanical question. I am not qualified and can only offer speculations. You are better served by others that are true Techs. With that being said, please only ask about parts and locating obsolete Auto Parts. Thank you. I have the ability to locate quite a few mechanical parts for American made vehicles fron the 1900`s to present. Some are OEM and some are aftermarket. This would include engine, brake and chassis parts. Body parts and trim are VERY difficult to find but you may inquire. If you need assistance in repair, I have illustrated books for major American manufacturers that show some illustrations BEFORE 1974. If needed, I can supply repair manuals for your specific vehicle. PLEASE REMEBER I'M A PARTS SPECIALIST, NOT A TECH!! Thank you.. Skip

Question
I was going to put an engine from a 96 Jimmy into a 95 Jimmy I was told that I may have to switch the computer as well could you possibly tell me if parts numbers would be the same or not. As well I noticed you have manuals for sale ,do you have any for the above mentioned vehicles? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Ewald,
Sorry to take so long to respond but I have been having phone problems here in the house and it is IN the house so the phone company would charge me to fix it. I had to figure it out on my own. Now to your inquiry...
Personally I would not suggest this swap. I'd try to find an engine from a 1995 Jimmy. There are 5 different computers for a 1995 and 2 different computers for a 1996 and the 2 for the '96 don't match the 5 from '95. From what I looked at (intake gaskets and fuel injectors), they are different from '95 to '96. It also makes a difference if the 8th digit of your VIN is a W, X or Z. Do you know the 8th digit of the VIN from the '96 donor vehicle?? IF YOU DECIDE TO LOOK FOR AN ENGINE FROM A '95, MAKE SURE THE NUMBER ON THE COMPUTER FROM THE DONOR VEHICLE MATCH THE NUMBER ON YOUR COMPUTER!!!
The intake gaskets are different between the two years so you couldn't even take off you intake setup and put it on the '96. I looked and the injectors are, indeed, different also. This looks like a time/money wasting swap. I don't suggest this...
As far as a repair manual, yes, I can get them but I usually go for the obsolete older vehicles. You can still get a Haynes manual under the part number 24071. It should cost you about $17.00. I didn't call Chevrolet to see about a manual there but I'm sure they can get you an original factory repair manual. IF they can't, get back with me, if that is the manual you want. Good luck, brother and keep in touch..
