Question
Dear Sir,
I am writing to ask your opinion in a recent spur of car trouble I have had. I drove my car ( 1999 Nissan Maxima SE)through flood water and was trying to reverse out of it when I ended up in a ditch. The water was not very high and no current and I turned the car off by myself. We pulled it out about an hour and a half later and the power steering is out and it will not start all I can hear is a click. The water went up a little bit past the drivers seat and not past that it was sitting at an angle. When we leave the battery connected for a short period of time smoke comes up from under the engine, however all the electronics work. I have been told that it is a problem with the starter, as well as just to not bother with it. Please tell me what you think should be done.

Answer
I would change the motor oil and trans fluid...pull your spark plugs..Charge the battery...then see if it will crank over without the plugs..The pistons may have water in them..if so..it will spray out of the plug holes..
Let it dry thouroly The ytry to start it again....It might be ok...

Thats what i would try first..
Good luck..
RC
