Question I cannot figure out how to remove the rear rotor on a 2004 Toyota Camry XLE. I broke a wheel stud and i bought a new one so i am trying to replace it before i have to go to work tomorrow. I don't know if i can drive on 4 lugs. I have taken off the tire and i noticed that there is a sort of mounting hole on the rotor and it has a rectangle taken out of it, it is a hole with a sort of FLATHEAD KEY. Can you please help me?
Thanks
Answer Driving on 4 studs is ok temporarily. If the rotor has any screws then you need to remove them and with the handbrake off,tap the rotor with a wooden block and hammer and it should come off.I assume you have removed the caliper and carrier.Make sure you chock the wheels at the front. Some rotors require removal of the bearing but i think this one has a screw or 2 holding it to the hub. Some are flathead and some are philips head.Drive out the old stud with a hammer and punch. These may be tight so replacing the stud may be harder as they are pressed in.Its best to remove the hub and have a machine shop press it in.If you dont want to do that then, line up the new one and use a heavy hammer to tap it in all the way.Inspect the other studs for wear or bad threads.
