Automotive - oil pressure sending unit and oil pump
Expert: Ron Cris - 1/6/2008
Question Hi Ron. I have a 94 Chevy G20 350 V8 automatic. My oil cooler hoses were dripping a little. I replaced the hoses and the adapter gasket set thinking the oil pressure would be better. It didn't seem to do the trick. When started, the pressure is good and as the motor warms up the pressure drops a little and at idle it is almost on top of the red zone by zero not at 80. I bought a sending unit but could you tell me where it is located on this motor. If this doesn't solve the problem then could you tell me where the oil pump is located. The motor has 139k on it but runs really well still so I want to get this corrected before some damage occurs.
Thanks, Craig
Answer that is common for an engine that has worn bearings and excessive clearances..I belive the problem is not the sender or the gauge...
Try running 20/50w motor oil..It will help at idle..if it rises above 25-30 psi while driving i wouldnt worry about it very much..
