Question
my 2004 explorer recently shut off while driving down the road. while coasting down the road i noticed a "engine shutdown failure" message in the message display box. i put the car in neutral and turned the key off then back on to try and start it, after a couple of seconds the engine turned over and began to run again with no further problems. it has not shut off again and no diagnostics have found a code or problem with the vehicle.  any assistance with this ghost will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
If the computer did not store the code why it shut off, then it is impossible to find .I would be guessing.Could be either gas supply or ignition but there are so many things to look at its best to wait and see if it happens again then run the usual diagnostics.
