Question
I HAVE A 99 PONTIAC GRAND AM AND MY IGNITION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, I WAS TOLD THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE AT THE DEALER CAUSE IT HAS TO RELEARN OR BE REPROGRAMMED. IS THIS TRUE? AND IF SO WHY? ISNT THERE SOMETHING WE CAN DO TO BY PASS IT OR DO THIS WITH OUT PAYING THE DEALER 500.

Answer
Thanks to the wonderful Anti-Theft programming most vehicles come equipped with these days, only the Dealer, or possibly a Locksmith who has the codes, can work on pretty much any of the newer vehicles that have a Chip in the key, which tells the Computer it's okay to let the vehicle start and run. You will have to check around, and see if there are any Locksmiths in your area, who have the codes needed for your car.
