Question
QUESTION: my2004 6 cylinder skyline ,after replacing the alternator, has started  melting no.6 coil.any ideas please !!!

ANSWER: Who replaced it and what did they do as to replacing the wiring in the proper places. Its possible they have a live wire touching the metal body.Look over the wiring from the alternator especially the heavy live cable and smaller plug in.

QUESTION: thanks i have quickly checked the alternator and charge rate ,all looks fine .why would only one coil be affected?could it be a fault in the wiring ti the coil.mk7t7 thanks again

Answer
The alternator circuit and the ignition circuit are 2 different systems altogether so i dont know why this should happen. It may be a bad coil pack but then again it would take a very high ampage to melt the coil pack. The low input will not do this as the smaller wire will melt first so,the high voltage wire must be shorting out.Change the coil pack and see what happens.Did you get a check engine light for a misfire on #6?I have never seen a coil pack melt.
