Automotive/1990 Chrysler Issue
Expert: Sean Halliday - 12/18/2008
QuestionHi,
**I have a 1990 Chrysler New Yorker.
**6 cylinder
**3.3 liter
**Fuel Injected
I just put in a new battery and I had my Alternator checked and that was okay!
The Problem??
WHEN I FIRST TURN THE CAR ON, I REALLY HAVE TO KEEP STEPPING ON THE GAS OR IT WILL STALL OUT!
WHAT MAY BE CAUSING THIS?
COULD IT BE ……
**THE WIRES?
**THE PLUGS?
**THE DIST. CAP & ROTOR?
**FUEL FILTER?
**PROBLEM WITH MY FUEL INJECTORS?
**NEED TO ADD A (GAS ADDITIVE) TO MY TANK?
Please help me out here. I live in the East Coast now were it is very cold now! Hard…start-ups!
What do you think the problem is and what do you think I will need to do to correct it?
Thanks a bunch!
AnswerIt would be a good idea to do the usual tune up,wires, plugs, cap ,rotor, filters as it is the winter. This will help a lot but on this car i have seen the cause of stalling mostly being the EGR valve being blocked or a vacuum leak.Look at the vacuum lines and remove the EGR valve and give it a good cleaning.it gets blocked up with carbon.Try this and if it is still the same, let me know.A vacuum test with the engine running will tell you lots of info and the tester isnt expensive at the parts store. It will come with a little book with all instructions and is a must to have if you work on cars.Lastly, you do not need to add anything to the fuel unless you are going to store the car for a long time like months or more and do not touch the injectors or add anything to the fuel. The car should run good with normal gas.Thats if the car has not been sitting for a long time.
