Question Good morning I have a 1987 toyota PU 2wd that I had a friend change the tie rods, after which I had an alignment. Since the repair the turning radius for left and right turns are uneven (steering wheel left 2 1/4 turns and right 1 3/4 turns). How can I correct this?
Answer You will need to start from scratch to fix this. The rack will need to be centered and the steering wheel removed. The rack and pinion is off as you have noticed by a 1/4 turn so,get the rack in the middle which means 2 turns then look at the wheels.Thats how much the tie rods need adjusted to get the wheels straight. When you have the wheels facing straight ahead ,replace the steering wheel.Notice there is adjustment on the inner and outer tie rods. This is more than likely the cause. One side is screwed in way too far.You will need to have the steering aligned again when you have the steering as close as you can get it.
