QuestionQUESTION: so i put an aftermarket edelbrock carb on my stock ford 460 and now when i put it in gear the car dies i have adjusted the float the air and gas my vacuum advanced distributor is connected correctly and all vacuums hook up correctly according to the diagram i got out of the library it will drive when cold like a bat out of hell once warmed up to operating temperature it bogs in gear only. In park and neutral it will idle great and rev up no problem, so i guess my question do you have any idea of what might be wrong, knowing what ive told you. Never had this problem with the stock carb. confused and irritated any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
ANSWER: When the engine is cold, the choke operates increasing the idle. When the engine heats up the choke closes and the idle will drop, so,i would warm up the engine and adjust the idle to where the car will run in gear. The idle should be approx 900 rpm in gear and 1100,in park when warm.Did you check ignition timing? With a strobe.

QUESTION: yes did that readjusted many times with and without choked
AnswerI dont see why the engine dies when warm if it runs good when cold. The choke would make it do the opposite if it wasnt working properly.Poor running when cold and good when hot. So,it looks like when hot,the fuel isnt enough to drive when you put the engine under load.Could be the new carb isnt compatible with your engine set up,or something not right with the block below the carb.Either way,its fuel starvation.Did you check both jet sizes to make sure they were the same?If all fails, ask a shop that tunes up the older fords.
